In 2013, Hervé Robbe succeeded Myriam Gourfink as the director of the Fondation Royaumont’s Programme Recherche et Composition Chorégraphique (PRCC). Following on from "Transforme", a new cycle of professional training was launched under the title "Prototype". Dialogue and skills transmission are at the heart of a program imagined "as an experimental workshop exploring the vocabularies and compositional modes available to professional choreographers, in close association with music and other arts" (Hervé Robbe). The Fondation d’entreprise Hermès has loyally supported this programme since 2009: "in France, there are very few training programmes for young choreographers. And the association drawn here between music and dance is one that we hold very dear" (Catherine Tsekenis).
Every year, ten young artists are invited to complete a residency at the Fondation Royaumont. Ten specialists – researchers, artists, stars, critics, dancers – are spread across ten workshops, to supervise the artists and help them to develop the theme of each cycle. The chosen themes have included "space" in 2008/09, "perception" in 2009/10, and "perpetuation and spaces for choreography" in 2013. Over the course of four sessions, they engage in a dialogue "involving conceptualization, experimentation, dance practice and composition" (Hervé Robbe). Each residency also includes a public workshop under the title "Fenêtre sur Cour[s]". The fourth and final session focuses on producing the participants’ choreographic prototypes, in association with their fellow composers-, dancers- and musicians-in-residence. Duos or trios of up to ten minutes in length.
