Biodiversity 2010 and beyond
Conference series organised with Iddri (the Institut du Développement Durable et des Relations Internationales)
A new conference series at the Musée du Quai Branly, co-organised by Iddri and the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès, marks the UN's international biodiversity year in 2010.
At the 2002 Johannesburg summit on sustainable development, most of the states represented committed to reduce or stop the depletion of biodiversity by 2010, recognising that depleted biodiversity endangers food and energy resources, compromises access to water and raw materials, and increases our vulnerability to climate change.

But as 2010 approaches, the targets are nowhere in sight. This is the central topic of the opening conference in a series aimed at highlighting key biodiversity issues and establishing new bases for work in this area.

To mark 2010 – the UN's international biodiversity year – the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès is working with Iddri on a scientific, political and strategic audit of progress towards the protection of biodiversity, through a series of international conferences.

Founded by Laurence Tubiana, Iddri is a think tank and interface between researchers and key actors, highlighting the political and international issues underpinning sustainable development and global governance.

The conferences aim to provide a broad public platform for internationally-renowned experts, raising awareness of the vital importance of biodiversity issues and the need to rethink our current development models.
