Luis Terán at Third Floor
A Traveler’s Stories
Argentinian artist Luis Terán (b. 1977) brings A Traveler’s Stories to Third Floor, inspired by his first visit to Singapore: an evocation of childhood, and the boundless curiosity of his early years.
"Our battered suitcases were piled on the sidewalk again; we had longer ways to go. But no matter, the road is life," wrote Jack Kerouac, in On the Road. "The road" is the theme of Luis Terán's exhibition for Third Floor, explored through his habitual medium of perforated objects (including suitcases) and pictures – magazine cuttings, photos, or his own creations. Each component seems to imprint itself on our memory and senses, forming a map of the emotions, a cerebral topography.

The subtle light filtered through the perforations redefines the pictures' subjects, and the identity of the objects used. Arranged like the stained-glass windows of a church, translucent panels are clad in a mystical, evanescent veil, more spiritual than physical. In his paintings, Luis Terán replaces the holes with small dots of colour applied to the framework of urban maps, rendering them more abstract.

As Third Floor's curator Emi Eu notes: "Luis Terán's work creates an alternative visual vocabulary, highlighting its own ephemeral beauty." The Fondation d’entreprise Hermès supports this exhibition, highlighting a subtle, nomadic aesthetic.
