For over ten years, Pantin – a town with a long and distinguished manufacturing history – has focused on the craft sector as a driver of economic and urban regeneration, implementing an extensive programme of support and resources for professional artisans and earning France's
Ville et Métiers d’art appellation in 2006. Pantin's craft quarter – the Quatre Chemins – provides workshops at affordable rents to thirty specialists in trades from furniture design and cabinet-making to musical instruments, fashion and accessories. The refurbished Maison Revel – once the home of a leading family of varnish-makers – has played a key role in this development, as a departmental resource centre for professional artisans. Open to the public, the Maison Revel provides financial, professional and promotional support to artisans in Pantin and in the Seine-Saint-Denis département, offering advice on management, accounting and business development, plus exhibitions, workshop visits and lectures. Pantin's annual
Salon des métiers d'art promotes the rich diversity and expertise of the craft sector in the Paris region.
For twenty years, Pantin's Quarter Hoche has been home to the Hermès workshops. Reflecting the house's local ties, and its commitment to grass-roots support, the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès supports the Maison Revel's work to showcase the expertise of craft professionals.
