The previous exhibition cycles at La Grande Place have seen the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès team up with the Centre Pompidou-Metz and 49 Nord 6 Est – Frac Lorraine. Marie Cozette, director of the Synagogue de Delme, is at the helm of the latest thematic cycle, L’Héritage des Secrets, inspired by the artisan skills practiced at the site. The artists “allow themselves to be swept away by the atmosphere of the crystal works and produce works that reflect that singular universe through the diffraction of meaning, in much the same way as crystal diffracts the light that shines through it.” (Marie Cozette)
Gaëlle Hippolyte and Lina Hentgen, working together as Hippolyte Hentgen, specialise in work that incorporates collage, superposition, cutting and printing. For their exhibition at La Grande Place, the duo have dreamt up a panorama befitting the scale of the Cristallerie Saint-Louis. “A choral, visual installation that incorporates all the components that make up the universe of the crystal works: the shape of the tools, the surrounding natural environment, the colours of crystal created by the infusion of metal oxides...”
Overlay, the first exhibition of the cycle, is a homage to the multiple skills and techniques nurtured at the crystal works. Expertise that is passed down from generation to generation via a thorough process of initiation. Transmission in action.
